Relax in Rappahannock County, Virginia
by Kim Bealle

With majestic mountains, pristine countryside and small town charm, Rappahannock County, Virginia, is a relaxing and enchanting stop for visitors.

Scenic byways traverse the county and offer impressive Appalachian views. With Shenandoah National Park and Old Rag Mountain as backdrops, enjoy a country drive to our historic villages of Sperryville, "Little" Washington and Flint Hill.

Peruse one of our many galleries, shop for treasures at our antique and specialty shops, watch local artisans at work, tour our wineries, dine at world-renowned The Inn at Little Washington or any of our other fantastic restaurants, catch a movie in a historic theatre and then make yourself at home in a quaint B&B.

There are activities of all kinds to enjoy here. And, you'll find our down-home hospitality to be downright charming.

Don't forget to experience Mother Nature while you're here. Spectacular scenery is all around you, day or night, winter or summer. On clear evenings, the Milky Way is seen easily and the mountain air is fresh and crisp. In the summer, see the lightning bugs fill the trees, flickering like millions of tiny stars. In the fall, the leaves turn brilliant shades of gold and red, highlighting the rolling hills and mountainsides.

Get close to the action and fish in one of our clear, freestone rivers, go horseback riding or hike through thick forests to scenic vistas and waterfalls. Look for abundant wildlife — coyotes, red foxes, bears, eagles, deer, native trout and blue heron, to name a few. Remember to bring your camera. Flora and fauna put on a stunning show during all seasons.

Old Rag Mountain and White Oak Canyon trailheads provide access to multiple trails in Shenandoah National Park from below Skyline Drive. And, they connect to the Appalachian Trail.

Whether traveling by foot, motorcycle, bike, car or even horse-drawn buggy, Rappahannock County provides a beautiful and restful escape. Enjoy your visit!
